Strike by Robert Trevor

STRIKE is the story of young boy, Daniel Kensington, born to a father he did of know and a drug using mother who starts his life in the confused and insecure environment of drug use, multiple abusive step father social services facilities until he is adopted and given a chance at a new life. But all is not well since the basis of his youth was anger and self defense. At the young age of 18 he is attacked by two gang youths and gets convicted on two counts of assault for a fight he did not start and is sent to prison for 8 years.

Upon his release from prison as a grown man, he must face the world, tagged as a felon and under the threat of a 3rd strike which would send him to prison for life but he is not aware of an additional threat, a sinister conspiracy formed by the gang members and a corrupt parole officer who have conspired to get Daniel charged with the 3rd strike.

Daniel's problems are further complicated by the prison/political/industrial complex which is working towards keeping a many people in prison as possible, fueled by politicians who have run on tough-on-crime postures and industrialists who want to build private prisons but also want assurance by the politicians that these private prisons will always be full.    

Daniel's story plays out against this backdrop of these sinister forces as he discovers with the aid of newfound friends and family, how vulnerable and targeted he really is and how with help he can find a way out.
