Good-bye, Trieste by Elsa M. Spencer

Author Elsa M. Vianelli Spencer read somewhere that memories of war have to be treated as though they had never happened. But she believes WWII should never be forgotten, in the hope that such horrors will never again stain God’s earth with the blood of His children. In her book, Good-bye, Trieste, she reveals her tumultuous experiences during this difficult time.

“To write history is a way to get rid of the past,” said Goethe. With Good-bye, Trieste, the author hopes she has closed all the painful chapters in the past. The years have made sorrow easier to live with, but they have not erased the horrors of three wars and their consequences in her life. For as long as Spencer lives, she will never forget the terrifying sound of the falling bombs, the sight of awesome destruction, the hunger, the fear that more than once kept her frozen. Nor will she forget the dedication of most of the underground fighters, and the cataclysmic circumstances that burdened her youth, her sudden maturity, and her anguished apprehending of reality.
